John Gottfurcht founded SSI in 1973 with an innovative idea: he would develop a strategy that could provide consistent returns irrespective of market movements. SSI's early quantitative work, combined with the Firm's in-house fundamental research, led to the launch of an equity market neutral product and the first market neutral long/short equity portfolio to be offered to institutional investors.
